Barn Assistant/Coordinator (part-time)
Reports to: Program Managers and Executive Director, as necessary
Supervises: Volunteers involved in Herd Care
Employment Type: Hourly
Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Scheduled Hours: MUST work weekends; up to 20 hours per week; varies
Barn Assistant
- Preparing feed; dropping feed (and medications) /filling water buckets; filling hay nets in stalls
- Cleaning stalls/adding shavings when needed
- Riding/schooling horses for exercise, according to published plan
- Maintaining the general cleanliness of the barn (items put away, swept, etc.)
- Bringing horses in for AM/PM feed/medication
- Grooming horses; checking horses daily for injuries/bumps/lumps
- Documentation and communication to team of any health issues found on horses
- Inspections of fields and fence line for issues
- Special barn projects, as assigned
Barn Coordinator during Programming
- Coordinating horses in the barn and arena prior to, during, and after lessons
- Helping set up lessons; assist in creating new lesson plans
- Providing offside assistance during mounting
- Creating and maintaining an inventory of all lesson supplies and tools (including location in barn/where to find them)
- Providing assistance at tack check before/during lessons
- Scoop manure in arena during lessons
- Assist with tacking up horses needed for next lesson
- Confirming horses needed for next lessons are ready
Therapeutic Riding Instructor (part-time)
Chesapeake Therapeutic Riding, Inc. (CTR) is seeking a Therapeutic Riding Instructor to join our dynamic team. This position will be responsible for providing onsite support as a certified therapeutic riding instructor or instructor in training as required by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH). Reporting to the Program Manager, the Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor will carry out the duties as required for the instructors, instructors-in-training and lesson volunteers.
CTR founded in 2003 and located in Street, Maryland, is a non-profit organization and Premier Accredited Center of PATH International. CTR provides a fun and unique healing experience through our therapeutic riding program for children and adults with special needs. Through the kindness of benefactors, volunteers and horses, CTR’s riders and families find hope, growth and compassion. Our mission is to encourage healing and celebrate life with individuals and groups whose minds, bodies and spirits will benefit from the transformative connection between people and horses. Our vision is to establish CTR as the premier equine-based, therapeutic healing and recreation center in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate with volunteers and instructors regarding volunteer needs for lessons;
- Provide training and support for instructors-in-training and volunteers;
- Maintain certification compliance; and
- Report any needs to the Program Manager.
