DREAMER

Dreamer

Dreamer – (Registered Name: Ursula’s Dreamer)

March 25, 1998 – June 21, 2023

There are few horses nicer and sweeter than Dreamer.

Dreamer was our OTTB that spent his life after his racing career, teaching children and adults the nuance of the hunter/jumper world. He was a reliable and steady lesson horse and a favorite mount at horse shows. He was generous and willing, not to mention handsome.

Dreamer began a new career in December 2017, when his owner was looking for a less rigorous lesson program for him. As he aged, arthritis and a breathing issue had indicated that he wasn’t able to perform on the level was required to and that’s when we got the call. Dreamer had no issue integrating into the herd and quickly became a favorite among our staff, volunteers, and riders.

Dreamer was CTR’s “go to guy” for mounted lessons and unmounted workshops. He had a great personality and was always kind and patient with people. He never did anything wrong. Our veterans absolutely loved him.

He got along with every horse in the herd. Buttons adored him. Foxy, Tilly, and Jewel were his “special girls”. Horses touch our lives in ways that are hard to express in words. Their connection to us is heartfelt and visceral. Dreamer was one of those horses. He was so easy to connect with and to care for.

Sadly, aging took its toll on our handsome racehorse. He developed a significant heart murmur about a year ago. His gait and balance became unsteady. Though his spirit and overall demeanor was good, we were very concerned about his safety and the quality of his life. After many tearful and heartfelt conversations among staff and consultation with our veterinarian, we knew the kindest thing was to help Dreamer transition in a dignified and peaceful way.

We chose a gentle, warm summer day to say goodbye to our beloved racehorse. We made sure he had lots of treats and a good grooming. He was in his pasture, surrounded by the herd he loved. He was with those who loved him unconditionally.

Run free, Dreamer. You were loved by all who knew you.

“My troubles are all over, and I am at home; and often before I am quite awake, I fancy I am still in the orchard at Birtwick, standing with my friends under the apple trees.”
― Anna Sewell, Black Beauty
